The Mary Alice Fortin Foundation and an anonymous donor grant million-dollar gifts to support victims of child abuse and domestic violence in South Florida
(Lake Worth, Fla.) – It’s the building blocks to a brighter future for child victims who have experienced severe emotional and physical trauma. Recently, HomeSafe secured a million-dollar capstone gift from The Mary Alice Fortin Foundation; capping off the construction needs of the $15 million-dollar ‘Healing the Hurt’ capital campaign. Since its announcement last March, the nonprofit has raised funds to renovate and build four new Specialized Therapeutic Group Care homes from West Palm to Boca, and to build upon its endowment. Looking forward, HomeSafe will use funds to meet the needs of its dedicated staff, to recruit talented and compassionate clinicians, to fill in other gaps in the child welfare system, and to ensure the longevity of the organization.
“This campaign was inspired after seeing how our girls were thriving at the new Sylvester Family Foundation West campus in West Palm,” said Matt Ladika, HomeSafe’s CEO. “Children who have experienced unimaginable trauma will now have safe, welcoming homes with their own private bedrooms, enrichment spaces, and more dignity in their healing. However, that said, we are now focusing on investing in our human capital and retaining employees, recruiting talented clinicians and focusing on our sustainability.”
HomeSafe is a nationally accredited nonprofit protecting Palm Beach County’s and South Florida’s most vulnerable residents – victims of child abuse and domestic violence. Through its results-driven approach, the organization is the leading provider of prevention and intervention services, serving more than 15,000 infants, children, young adults and families each year. HomeSafe is one of just five specialized residential therapy homes in the state of Florida—the only one in Southeast Florida.
Throughout renovations, the organization has garnered support with an anonymous $1 million gift – right on the cusp of its ribbon cutting to the newly constructed Sylvester Family Foundation North campus and Stoops Family Foundation Grand Cottage. The ribbon-cutting opened a 12,867 square-foot home located at 5130 47th Place North, West Palm Beach where it now houses 12 suites where each child will have their own private room and bathroom. It also contains a large kitchen, living and dining areas, therapy wing and gaming area to create a warm, inviting home environment for 12 male foster youth.
Also, this fall HomeSafe is at the helm of opening its renovated and reconfigured Bernstein Family Foundation Campus in Boca Raton. The Grand Cottage, too, will offer private bedrooms and bathrooms, open living spaces, a kitchen, laundry room and therapeutic spaces for the 12 children being treated at the time. Renovations show the remodel of the existing Enrichment Center, which will offer a children’s fitness and play center, multimedia room, community room and music room.
