Appreciating the Simple Things This Summer

Summertime at HomeSafe is for fun, relaxation, and imaginative play. After busy months of school, homework, tutoring, group and individual therapy sessions, life skills lessons and more, our kids are ready for a break. Our incredible team members plan entertaining and engaging summer activities that make our children feel loved, valued, and excited to start each day.

At our Sylvester Family Foundation North Campus in West Palm Beach, the boys have enjoyed visiting the splash pad and the park, going to the movies and go-cart racing, fishing, trading Pokémon cards, and an epic annual all-day event called “Just Be a Kid Day” at the house that included a game truck, water slides, a cotton candy machine, and a pick-up football game.

For the girls, summer outings have included spa days, trips to the roller skating rink and movies, ice cream parties, a luau-themed event that included an inflatable water slide and delicious treats, and much more.

Last month, all of our children were treated to a very special day at the Palm Beach Zoo, hosted by HomeSafe board president Mike Bruno and his team at Cresset Capital in West Palm Beach. The kids enjoyed visiting all of the animal exhibits and were treated to a private panther experience. Staff and our children loved seeing the tigers and the nine-month-old baby koala who were the crowd favorites.

Many of the kids at HomeSafe have grown up too quickly—often in charge of raising themselves from a young age. Here, we want their summers to be similar to the summers that many of us experienced growing up: feelings of safety, joy, adventure, and the chance to not have to worry about anything. We are grateful to all of our donors who make summer a magical time for our children.
