David M. LaymanDavid, a West Palm Beach shareholder at Greenberg Traurig, passed away unexpectedly in October. David was one of HomeSafe’s longest-serving board members, having spent 26 years in various leadership positions for the agency, most notably, board chair in 2007. David so generously offered his highly valuable and well-respected talents as a real estate attorney, helping HomeSafe with major legal endeavors including the sale of our Ponce De Leon Ave campus in 2001, the purchase of our Bernstein Family Foundation Independent Living Campus at Pond Place in 2015, and the purchase of two new Sylvester Family Foundation residential campuses in 2017 and 2019. David was an extremely kind-hearted person with a competitive spirit, who truly cared about the children and families HomeSafe serves. His legacy will be felt for generations to come.

Brian McCareyBrian McCarey After almost 25 years of developing and leading HomeSafe’s SafetyNet program, Brian McCarey also unexpectedly passed away in May. The SafetyNet team serves families impacted by domestic violence – helping victims and their children find hope and healing through support and therapy. Brian was the heart and soul of the program, and loved by all those he served over the years. A well-respected mental health professional within the domestic violence community, he will be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit, and dedication to helping families heal their hurt and move toward a brighter future.
